FITON is a group of environmental remediation companies, the first of which was founded in 1986 and headquartered in Toronto, Canada by Dr. Godknows F. Itamunoala. Dr. Itamunoala was educated at King’s College, University of London, and holds a PhD in Biochemical Engineering from the University of Manchester Institute of Sciences and Technology, Manchester, England.

FITON uses a unique bioremediation process called, Biocatalysis. The biocatalysis process uses a proprietary biological product, Micro-Fiton. Micro-Fiton consists of natural microbes, ubiquitous in nature, combined with NPK and micro nutrients such as Sodium (Na), Magnesium (Mg), Potassium (K) in combination with a biosurfactant, an effective bio-stimulant infused with electron acceptors. The Fiton biostimulant enables Micro-Fiton to biodegrade organic contaminants by orders of magnitude not achievable by conventional bioremediation.

The biocatalysis treatment process is completely scalable and breaks down hazardous substances into nontoxic matter, leaving no harmful side effects or collateral damage to the host environment. This is particularly effective in treating contaminants in sensitive ecosystems, such as the Florida Everglades and the Niger Delta wetlands. Fiton technology’s ability to perform in these environments makes it ideal for eco-sensitive remediation.

Fiton’s efficacy has been recognized by the UK government, leading to the granting of a bioremediation products license for oil spill treatment in marine environments (sea, beach, rocky shores) of the United Kingdom, including Scotland. These licenses first issued to FITON in 1996 by the UK Ministry of Agriculture Fisheries and Food, MAFF are now renewable by the UK Marine Management Organization, (MMO) every five years.
